Description
At Sthapatya BIM, we are committed to delivering precise and timely Scan to BIM services. One of our challenging projects was a MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing) commercial building in a well-known European country. The client required us to model the ducts, pipes, and electrical equipment within an existing building, while adhering to a 5mm tolerance and a very tight deadline—just 7 working days.
Location:
Europe
Square Feet:
25000 sq ft
Status:
Completed
Challenges
- Point Cloud Quality: The point cloud data provided was not up to the expected standard, resulting in some discrepancies in the spatial accuracy of the elements.
- Limited Visual Reference: We only had a few images for verification from the client, making it difficult to cross-check certain elements with the scan data.
- Dense MEP Elements: The building’s MEP systems were densely packed, creating a complex environment for accurate modeling of ducts, pipes, and electrical equipment. The density of elements added an additional layer of complexity for clear modeling and integration.
- Tight Deadline: The client needed the final BIM model within 4 working days, requiring our team to operate efficiently and manage time carefully while maintaining high-quality standards.
Approach
Despite the challenges, we took several key steps to ensure successful delivery:
- Collaborative Verification: Given the limited image reference, we worked closely with the client to validate specific elements and confirm their placement and measurements, ensuring a higher degree of accuracy.
- Efficient Modeling: With a 5mm tolerance and a dense MEP layout, we focused on prioritizing key elements (ducts, pipes, and electrical equipment) while ensuring that the final model met the necessary accuracy standards for integration with future building systems.
- Time Management: To meet the 4-day deadline, we split the tasks into smaller, manageable parts, allowing parallel processing by different team members while maintaining a consistent quality check workflow.
Deliverables
The project culminated in a fully accurate BIM model of the MEP systems, including:
- Detailed ducting, piping, and electrical equipment accurately placed within the existing building.
- A clean, optimized 3D model meeting the 5mm tolerance.
- Point cloud data and verification images integrated into the final model for easy future updates or audits.
Conclusion
Our team successfully delivered a precise, high-quality BIM model within the client’s tight deadline. The model enabled seamless planning for future service additions while minimizing the risk of installation conflicts. By combining accuracy, efficient workflows, and close client collaboration, we ensured the renovation process could move forward smoothly and with confidence.
